TH Deggendorf uses eCognition in KIWA Project

According to the project description, KIWA (short for “AI-based forest monitoring”) is testing “innovative, intelligent, and digital methods for forest fire prevention.”

The project will run for three years, until the end of 2025, and is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety.

[ui!] Urban Mobility Innovations GmbH and Quantum Systems GmbH are testing a method that uses special drone technology and AI to detect forest fires and assess forest health early on. On a scientific level, the project is being supported by the project partners: The Deggendorf Institute of Technology and the University of Bayreuth.

September 2025

We look forward to seeing you at the Remote Sensing Working Group 2025 in Bochum on September 29–30

We’ll see you at the ‘Annual Meeting AK Remote Sensing 2025’ on September 29 and 30, 2025, at the Institute of Geography, Ruhr University in Bochum.

I’m looking forward to a lot of exciting initiatives and discussions on the topic of “Urban – Rural – Interaction: Navigating through Tipping Points in Coupled Human-Environment Systems.” Let’s discuss how remote sensing, using established and innovative technological approaches, can effectively support risk management and sustainable decision-making.

On Monday afternoon, the Tama Group will also be sharing some thoughts „About Current Limitations of CNN Technology with Remote Sensing Imagery.”
